The Life of God

Let's look at some characteristics of the life of God and discover how God's life can be made manifest to you and the benefits of living in that life.

  • The Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost are one in name, aim, purpose, thought, and direction. They are all in each other. (For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. - 1 John 5:7).
  • God the Father has life in Him, and He gave the Son life to be in Him. Thus, God is filled with life, and Jesus is filled with life. Life is the very opposite of death. (For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself. – John 5:26).
  • The life of God is also the light of God. (This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. – 1 John 1:5)
  • The life of God and the light of God have been made available to mankind. (In the beginning was the Word [Jesus], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:1-4)
  • The glory of the Lord is the life and light of God made manifest that man can seek. (But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name…. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. – John 1:12, 14)
  • God shone His life into the earth, and He did it by speaking. There was an order in which this happened. God the Father spoke to Jesus the Son, and Jesus the Son spoke to the Holy Ghost, who moved upon the face of the earth and brought things to pass. Remember that Jesus was in the beginning, and nothing was made that was made without Him (see John 1). (In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. –Genesis 1:1-3)
  • The Father spoke the word to Jesus, and then Jesus spoke it. The Father did the work through the Holy Ghost. Jesus never chooses His own words or deeds. (For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. – John 12:49-50)
  • Not all life is eternal, and you will find places in scripture where the word life is used without the modifier "eternal." (That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us. -1 John 1:1-2)
  • God the Father through the Lord Jesus has placed life in the earth. He is the Author of all life. There's life in His Words. (In whose hand is the soul of every living thing. –Job 12:10a; For the life of the flesh is in the blood. - Leviticus 17:11a)

God formed man's outer shell out of the dust of the ground, and then He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul—a living being or spirit like God. God laid out man's integrated human system. Man is a spirit being who has a soul, which is the mind, will and emotions. Man lives in a physical body, the outer shell, which is just dirt. (And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. –Genesis 2:7; I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. - 1 Thessalonians 5:23b).

What kind of life, or what category of life did this first man have? God had breathed into them His life. They had His radiance, His fire, and His glory. God placed in man the breath of life that comes from the Father. It's not a different life; it's the same life. That's something to celebrate! You have the life of God in you!

The life that Adam received originally was not permanent; it wasn't eternal. When they sinned, death came, and they hid themselves when they heard the voice of God. Adam knew that it was the voice of God because he had heard it before. That voice had life in it. The first man's life had to be replenished, and God did this by speaking to them every day in the Garden of Eden. As long as Adam and Eve received the voice of the Lord daily, the voice which carries with it the life of God, they had life, function, and fullness. But the day they didn't receive it, they didn't receive God's life.

In other words, their lives were dependent on their daily fellowship with God. That force of life was reinforced as long as they followed the instructions of God, as long as they obeyed God's commands.Obeying God's commands is the pathway to continued life. (In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death. -Proverbs 12:28).

When you follow what God said, there will be no darkness at all in you. Remember, God is light, and God is life, and in God there is no darkness. In other words, Satan won't be able to get to you at any time or any place.

Just as that first man, Adam, required nourishment, the nourishment of the voice of the Lord in the garden, so you have to partake daily of God's Word, which is full of the ingredient of the very life of God, in order to have spiritual strength. Spiritual strength is called faith, and faith is the victory through which you overcome the world (see 1 John 5:4). If you are strong in faith, you can overcome the devil all the time because of the life of God in you. The life of God will give you joy unspeakable! It will be a fountain of life springing from God's spirit!
